Greeley Mayor Urges Residents and Schools to Take Water Conservation Pledge

Mayor Pro Tem Dale Hall presents proclamation to Dena Egenhoff, City of Greeley Water Conservation Manager

City of Greeley routinely finishes in the Top 5 of National Mayor’s Challenge.

GREELEY, Colo. — The City of Greeley is taking part in a national competition to see who can get the highest percentage of their population to pledge to conserve water and save energy. The “Wyland National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation,” which runs from April 1-30, encourages people to make small changes in their daily habits so they can see big results.

“Our forefathers knew how important water is to Greeley, and so should we,” said Mayor Gates, who signed a water conservation proclamation at the Greeley City Council meeting on April 1. “Using water wisely helps keep our community strong and resilient.”

To participate, visit mywaterpledge.com and choose from several water-saving actions, such as:

  • Fixing leaking faucets, pipes and toilets.

  • Washing full loads of laundry and dishes.

  • Turning off sprinklers when it rains.

“Water conservation shouldn’t be limited to one month per year,” Gates said. “All we have to do is pledge to make a few small changes in our daily lives to be more efficient with water. If we do that, we will all be winners.”

Participants receive a code to share with others, increasing the odds of being randomly chosen in drawings for a daily prize. One lucky person from each of the five winning cities will be entered into a grand prize drawing for assistance paying their utility bills.

This Mayor’s Challenge is also a great way for students to learn about water conservation. K-12 teachers can pledge on behalf of their classes and win prizes if their city wins. Students can also pledge at mywaterpledge.com/classroom-edition/ to help improve their city's rank.

Take the pledge anytime in April at mywaterpledge.com and help Greeley compete–and win—against other cities in our population category.
