Greeley’s Potato Day Set for September 9 at Centennial Village Museum
Kick off the fall season with Greeley’s Potato Day from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. September 9 at Centennial Village Museum, 1475 A Street. Hosted by the Friends of the Greeley Museums as the organization’s largest fundraising event, proceeds support the museums’ preservation and education programs.
Activities include living history demonstrations, live entertainment, and a reenactment performance by the Buffalo Soldiers. Join in the cakewalk to take a sweet treat home. Admission includes a free baked potato with all the best tater toppings.
An homage to Greeley’s agricultural roots (or, tubers, in this case), the first Potato Day kicked off in Greeley’s Lincoln Park 129 years ago. A record 6,000 people turned out for the event. One hundred years later, Friends of the Greeley Museums worked to recruit volunteers and raise money to support the museums. They held their first Potato Day on September 26, 1987. Since then, the Friends of the Greeley Museums has donated nearly $500,000 to the Museums.
