Training | Crew Leader for Ecological Restoration

Saturday, Sept. 16 - Sunday, Sept. 17

In this two-day weekend workshop, you'll join a small class to receive hands-on training in effective crew leadership as well as basic ecological restoration tasks including basic planting, seeding, and erosion control techniques. Workshop topics are directly applicable to any nonprofit or agency restoration project! Plan to attend both days.

This training costs $100. This training is free for all Weld County residents. Please email Ellen (ellen@voc.org) if you are a Weld County resident. Register online here.

Volunteer Project | Trail Reconstruction at Signature Bluffs Natural Area

Saturday, Sept. 23

Signature Bluffs Nature Area is a river habitat for all sorts of wildlife and provides recreational opportunities from hiking, to kayaking and fishing to the Greeley community. However, heavy rains and heavy visitation has highlighted the need for volunteers to give back to this open space! Click here for more details and to register.

Volunteer Project | Russian Olive Removal

Saturday, Oct. 21 & Sunday, Oct. 22

Russian Olives are an invasive species that inhibits the growth of other tree and shrub species native to Colorado. They can reproduce by seed and root suckers, so we will be cutting the trees and then a city staff member will be applying herbicide to the stumps to inhibit the growth of root suckers. Sign up for one or both days. Click here for more details and to register.

Trail Ambassador

Volunteer Trail Ambassadors collaborate with the community by making a proactive effort to reduce social and environmental impacts on the heavily trafficked trails, natural areas and open spaces in Greeley and Weld County. Click here for more information: Trail Ambassador flyer.

Weed Warrior

The City of Greeley Natural Areas & Trails Division manages the City’s 2,000 acres of designated natural areas. Many sites have invasive weed species growing in them. Interested volunteers will receive training on identifying and managing several of these species and how to record the information for land management planning. Volunteers will be equipped with materials, tools, and supplies to go out independently to locate and treat them in designated natural areas during the growing season. This provides an opportunity for citizens to take an active part in natural area stewardship on their own time by helping keep these ecosystems healthy and reporting any issues they see. The Weed Warrior program is taking a break in 2023 and will return in 2024.
